David is a Mexican American artist working from his studio in Rogers, Arkansas. He explores the place of humanity in the cosmos and the delineation of meaning and context through lines and shapes. The latter is a recurring theme of his work as he contends with the aggregate of lines, types of fonts, and how biomechanics turn into language or symbols. His immanent inquisition of meaning derives from a longing to understand and be understood. As the child of Evangelical ministers in mostly Catholic Mexico, his customs and cultural association made him feel lost and like an outsider in his own homeland. Exacerbating these feeling of peerless sojourning, his world view developed through a lens of undiagnosed ADHD, dyslexia, along with stammering. At the age of fourteen, his family relocated to the US and again language became a invisible border and the lack of historical context within the new culture rekindled the feelings of his earlier life. His work presents these obstacles with insidious cypher-like markings ubiquitous throughout his work. Strands and series of symbols and code merge together as if orchestrated musically. Those who have seen or worked with those symbols and context can recognize them and partake of meaning. However, his work is not exclusionary. Instead, he collects symbols and imagery that are prevalent in popular culture and slowly expands into more insidious themes.
Although he studied art and two-dimensional design, he turned his studies to business, statistics, and data analysis research after his art career failed to launch. From 2001 until 2019, his art production was seldom, unpaid, and for the most part, portraits in graphite. However, during the Christmas holiday of 2018 a seemingly uncaused catharsis of creativity took place while visiting his extended family. He began with copier paper and Sharpie markers. This moment became the true birth of the artist. He found his voice and understood that he had so much to say and that words and language were not enough to share all that was burning inside. From that day he has expanded his media to acrylics, spray paint, graffiti markers, pastels, and different styles of painting. Just like his creative inspiration emerged overnight, his career has thrived almost at a similar pace. His work has shown, in New York, Milan and Paris. He collaborates with art institutions in Northwest Arkansas and recently was Program Manager for visual arts and Arts One Presents. In this role he established the visual arts program for the organization which brings public art installations in Springdale Arkansas. The goal of Arts One Presents is to team up with local artists and businesses and provide next level opportunities for artists to grow. Currently, David works independently, painting and curating shows as well as participating in group exhibits like Meta14 with artists Lourdes Valverde and Brioch. Immediate plans for his career are his first international show in Madrid, returning to Paris and several juried art shows in the US. He also introduced a new community event, Percussion Painting through Arts One Presents. He plans to take this activity to different places in the US and let communities experience creating art together.
